We have formed wildlife corridors throughout the golf course, planted 2500 trees and recently rewilded half an acre of our golf course, transforming it into a vibrant wildflower meadow to support pollinators and small mammals. The wildflower project was complemented by the construction of a bug hotel, created in partnership with Kewaigue Primary school using reclaimed materials. All of these projects provide safe habitats for wildlife, bees, beetles and other insects, while providing a useful tool for educating the next generation on biodiversity.

Good for the planet
At Comis Hotel & Golf Resort, we are privileged to steward over 200 acres of beautiful Isle of Man countryside. Our vision is to operate as a resort where our hospitality business and sustainability co-exist, protecting the island's unique environment for future generations.
As a proud Isle of Man UNESCO Biosphere partner, we are committed to reducing our environmental impact across all operations in line with UNESCO's principles and global sustainability goals.
This is how we do it:
At the resort we innovate sustainability to remain the resort of choice for our guests, staff and partners. Our in house designed and sustainably built driving range reflects this vision being built almost entirely out of sustainably sourced FSC certified timber reducing CO₂ emissions by 19%. A thinner, permeable block paving floor saved 50 tons of concrete and 4 tons of CO₂, with a soakaway capturing 200,000 litres of rainwater annually. Native tree planting replaced unsightly netting creating habitats, wildlife corridors and offsetting carbon.
Energy efficiency is a key priority at the resort. Regular audits take place to monitor energy usage and identify opportunities for energy reduction. We already adopt measures such as LED lighting and efficient control systems and are replacing high energy use plant and equipment as part of our planned maintenance regime. We have planted enough trees on site to sequester enough carbon to cover the entire golf staff.
Our commitment to circularity is evident in our onsite composting system which reuses 15 tons of kitchen and greens waste annually on the grounds. We have introduced refillable guest amenities, compostable coffee filters and tea bags – small steps with a significant cumulative impact.
Efforts to conserve water include rainwater harvesting for landscaping needs and the upgrading to an efficient smart control of our irrigation system.
